Mykaeleus was the mastermind mage aiding Lionel Mountebank with many of his endeavors. Mykaeleus had agreed to provide Kiaransalee drow mercenaries to Mountebank in exchange for a share of Red Sin’s dragon horde that Mountebank was looting from the mountains. Mykaeleus sent separate drow emissaries by horseback twice a month to Tethyamar to pick up payment due from the mines.
Mountebank used the drow mercenaries provided by Mykaeleus to periodically scare or slay dwarves in the mines to keep the dwarven workers focused on their safety as opposed to any thoughts about an uprising against Mountebank. There was also a separate tunnel through the Underdark that ran from an entrance in the mines to the drow outpost located in the Great Desert halfway between Tethyamar and Mykaeleus’ tower. The drow mercenaries used the outpost as a staging ground for their raids against Tethyamar.
Mykaeleus is highly accomplished with illusionary magics, and he would also teleport his tower across the Great Desert each day at sundown in order to remain difficult to find. The Party eventually managed to track down his location using a duplicate key to his tower that also guided the party to the tower’s location.
The Party stormed Mykaeleus’ fortress or mirrors, and after fighting a variety of bizarre encounters involving illusions and disorienting terrain they managed to confront Mykaeleus. However, after slaying him, his corpse turned to snow. Mithrandir with the help of Darian Skullbasher managed to determine that this “Mykaeleus” they had defeated was in fact only a simulacrum of the real individual, the whereabouts of whom they had no clue…
